Dogs in Literature and Myth

I thought that the following article was interesting:

The dog has played an important part in man's stories since the very beginning. When Ulysses returned from his wandering after the Trojan war, on his faithful dog recognized him. The Bible has thirteen references to dogs, among the most famous of which is "A living dog is better than a dead lion."
