When you need to treat the dog with pills .. what do you do to make sure he/she swallows them? Put them in the food, force them on the throat?

I force them in the throat. It's the only way i can get her take them. if i put them in the food she just spits them out. And if i pound them she doesn't eat.

Usually I can stick a pill in a piece of hotdog and get them to eat it if does fall out gets shoved on back of tongue and head held up.

I never thought about "shoving" it on the throat. We always hide the pill in a meat piece or something he likes to eat and it's all done. Still I saw the vet do the "throat" thing with no problems.

I used to stuff them in a piece of cheese, but Noddy's such a curious greedy little bugger, the last time he had pills I just held them out and he ate them.

Only had one just eat em plain,usually will take in meat or cheese and had some that even on back off tongue mouth held up and closed they would spit it out when let go.

We put the pill in a piece of cheese or in peanut butter. Mauser doesn't know that he's taking a pill because he loves both of the above.
