RE: How to keep a dog "calm" when being left alone at home
Hey!! Man i am happy. We bought a dog like 4-5 months ago. And we tried leaving him alone when we leave. We came back..dessaster!! Ripped paper, broken pencils, bit on everything, tried getting the bread on the tables..man it was horrible. It is a golden btw. Still 8 months old. So when we leave we attach him in a corner and has a limited space to move in.
What can i do so i can make him stop doing that? And when we leave and come back no dessaster.
Big kennel crate helps or outside kennel if can.Rewards if do go and nothing destoyed a positive consequence thing.

Kennel crate is a big crate just big enough for dog to stand turn lay down in and not go to bathroom in.Something that can use when away.
Outside kennel fencing where can put outside and cannot escape or others cannot get in.
Kennel crate has to be a safe place and not a punishemnt also. Why a treat when goes in always good.

Ok if have a outside kennel take into it at short periods and make it a fun place, bring in a favorite toy and play a bit may 15 minutes a day then increase time..then after dog is comfortable put in alone with toys, food and water leave alone with you out of sight. When bring dog out praise and treat, will associate kennel with fun praise and treats.
Indoor kennel crate put treats, toy and a towel or pillow dog likes in there.Dogs like to den so do not shut door just let walk in and out for a few days. Then treats and lock up for very short period treat and praise saying good dog when comes out (never use crate as punishment) keep going like this with you in room then lock in and move to another room leaving a TV or Radio on so has human voices to keep company, soon be comfortable with both.
