Shy  How to keep a dog "calm" when being left alone at home

I think many people are scared to leave the dog alone at home since it would mean havoc. How did you teach your doggie to NOT freak out when being left alone?

Crate training comes in effect here, or you take it slow and leave in 15 minute increments so dog knws you will always return.

RE: How to keep a dog "calm" when being left alone at home

Mauser is better with being at home alone then he was when he was younger. We used to put him in our kitchen/dinning room combination and used a wooden gate across the entrance. This would give him more walking room but he would chew on the gate or shelf unit in our kitchen. He wasn't happy being locked up. Now he just lays down on the couch, chair or on our son Mike's bed.

I have tried and tried and tried to get CoCo to be calm when I leave the house. I always tell him 'Momma will be back la8ter on' he will go and sit in his corner when I am getting ready to go somewhere and sit there with this 'scared' look on his face with the ears back and when I come back he has either torn up some papers or been on my sofa.

I think you both need to take dreamhunter's advice in here Wink

Leave for 2-3 minutes before or 15 .. then more and more ...

Juni is very calm since he knows it's his place and I think he considers us to be the guests Very Happy

I know. I heard that once a dog reaches adulthood it's too la8te too train them how you want them too be because their personalities are already formed. Coco will be 3 in Dec

Get a large open kennel crate and another thing that helps is leave TV or radio on as they can hear human voice as then not think all alone.

RE: How to keep a dog "calm" when being left alone at home

Hey!! Man i am happy. We bought a dog like 4-5 months ago. And we tried leaving him alone when we leave. We came back..dessaster!! Ripped paper, broken pencils, bit on everything, tried getting the bread on the tables..man it was horrible. It is a golden btw. Still 8 months old. So when we leave we attach him in a corner and has a limited space to move in.

What can i do so i can make him stop doing that? And when we leave and come back no dessaster.
