Salt .. bad for dogs?

How bad is salt for dogs? Is there a need to "season" their food with salt? Is it stupid? What do you think?

I never thought of giving Mauser salt but I would wonder if it would make him as thirsty for water as it does us.

RE: Salt .. bad for dogs?

The main problem with dogs and salt is if the dog is a large breed that is prone to bloat, the dog could become thirsty from the salt and then go and gulp down a lot of water after eating and consequently set him up for bloat. I would certainly not season a dog's food with salt.

RE: Salt .. bad for dogs?

Not need to help with bloat with my hounds who are prone to it. Got to limit water and food after exercise to be sure not happen.
